Indian Rocks Beach

zoom
Nestled between mile marker 16 and 18 along Gulf Boulevard is the popular beach community of Indian Rocks Beach, also known locally as IRB. This 2.7 miles stretch of beachfront is part of a barrier island along the Gulf of Mexico with waterfronts facing either emerald Gulf waters or the intracoastal waterway. At various points along Gulf Boulevard this small island narrows, allowing spectacular views to both the intracoastal waterway and Gulf of Mexico. Here, you can enjoy the sunrise or the sunset, or both, from just one location.

History
Legend has that the Florida's Beach community of Indian Rocks Beach reputedly got its name when a native medicine man that miraculously healed his chief with the waters from a natural sulfur spring believed to have been located there. Early settlers seeing the Indians on their way to the "rock encircled spring" would say, "The Indians are on their way to the rocks."

Restaurants
This small beach community offers a wide variety of options for satisfying your taste buds. If coffee and donuts are your choice for breakfast, look for the lighthouse on the southern part of IRB. Grab some freshly baked goodies at Lighthouse Donuts and Bagels and walk across the street to enjoy them on the beach. If you prefer your baked goodies to be a bit more on the "French" side, try Cafe de Paris, located on the northern part of IRB. Or, for an all-American homestyle breakfast, try Sandy's right next door.

If you are looking for delicious fresh seafood, no need to go further. Featured on the Food Networks' "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" show, Keegan's Seafood Grille is a long-time local favorite. Try their original recipe gumbo or mouth-watering ceviche. Another legendary seafood establishment is Crabby Bill's. Look for the giant crab on the roof and you've found the place. Featuring a relaxed atmosphere and family style picnic tables, the fried soft-shell crabs are always a hit. Just up the road is PJs Oyster Bar. Plastered with signed dollar bills throughout the restaurant, you'll also find terrific seafood here. And, it is all available "to go", just in case you decide to make it a picnic of it on the beach. Renowned Chef Scott puts a new twist to old seafood favorites at Guppy's On The Beach. A sample specialty is the Jerk rubbed Atlantic swordfish with coconut habenero cream/mango salsa. With a choice of indoor or outdoor patio seating, you can walk across the street to Beach Access Park before you sit down to dinner. These are just a few of the many restaurants serving delicious fare in Indian Rocks Beach.
